We are a community first rescue and adoption organization. We work directly with animal control and residents to ensure no dog is left behind. We are 100% independent and focused on boots on the ground results.
Our Story
Founded by Tori Blossom, a veterinary assistant with over a decade of experience in animal welfare, DASH was created after seeing countless good dogs slip through the cracks — dogs who simply needed time, care, and understanding.
Tori saw the heartbreak firsthand and knew something had to change. She envisioned a rescue that would focus on Gary’s most overlooked dogs — the pitbull-type breeds — and give them the second chance they’d been denied for far too long. From that vision, DASH Dogs and Second Homes was born.
What We Do
- Rescue & Rehabilitation: We work hand in hand with Gary Animal Control officers to spotlight the city’s most overlooked dogs, many at risk of euthanasia. Every dog receives comprehensive veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and behavioral support once in our care.
- Foster Care: Our dedicated foster families provide a safe, loving environment where dogs can heal, grow, and rebuild trust while awaiting their forever homes.
- Community Partnership: By collaborating closely with Gary Animal Control and local advocates, we help reduce shelter crowding and improve outcomes for Gary’s dogs.
- Education & Advocacy: We are committed to changing the narrative around pitbull-type dogs through outreach, community engagement, and education.
Our Vision
Our vision goes beyond rescue, it’s about transformation. We envision a future where every dog in Gary is safe, wanted, and loved, and where the community views these dogs not with fear or bias, but with compassion and pride.
We strive to create lasting change by building a community supported rescue facility, expanding access to low cost veterinary care, and continuing to promote responsible ownership and breed education.
Through collaboration, compassion, and consistency, DASH is working toward a future where no dog is left behind — and where second chances aren’t the exception, but the norm.
