Founded by Tori Blossom, a veterinary assistant with over a decade of experience in animal welfare, DASH was created after seeing countless good dogs slip through the cracks — dogs who simply needed time, care, and understanding.

Tori saw the heartbreak firsthand and knew something had to change. She envisioned a rescue that would focus on Gary’s most overlooked dogs — the pitbull-type breeds — and give them the second chance they’d been denied for far too long. From that vision, DASH Dogs and Second Homes was born.

• Rescue & Rehabilitation: We work hand in hand with Gary Animal Control officers to spotlight the city’s most overlooked dogs, many at risk of euthanasia. Every dog receives comprehensive veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and behavioral support once in our care.

• Foster Care: Our dedicated foster families provide a safe, loving environment where dogs can heal, grow, and rebuild trust while awaiting their forever homes.

• Community Partnership: By collaborating closely with Gary Animal Control and local advocates, we help reduce shelter crowding and improve outcomes for Gary’s dogs.

• Education & Advocacy: We are committed to changing the narrative around pitbull-type dogs through outreach, community engagement, and education.
